Fitting those tapestry upholstery fabrics

Envisioning new tapestry upholstery fabrics on those tired pieces of furniture? Whether you're planning on slipcovers or a permanent makeover, a quilter's basting gun can prove to be an invaluable tool. Removable or permanent, that new covering has to fit smoothly. The easiest way to achieve a snug fit with tapestry upholstery fabrics (or any fabric for that matter) is to baste the pieces together directly on the furniture. Just fit the cut pieces onto the chair or sofa inside out and fasten them together with the basting gun. You'll want the fasteners to be close enough together to hold the shaping firmly, most likely spaced about three to four inches apart, closer around curves. Using the fasteners as the guideline it is truly easier to sew than manuevering around pins. Once you've experimented with a basting gun, you'll never go back to pinning! The fasteners also need only a single punch...less holes in those tapestry upholstery fabrics and gentler on that sewing machine needle should you sew through one.

While browsing the web for your tapestry upholstery fabrics don't forget the larger the pattern the more additional yardage required for matching. Stripes and plaids require the most extra fabric.
